Colin Todhunter – Political Opportunism. The Boston Marathon Tragedy Used as a Pretext To Extend the “Global War on Terrorism”

In a 2011 interview for an Australian TV channel, US Republican Senator John McCain talked about Islamic extremism ‘spreading’ if left unchecked by military intervention in Afghanistan and elsewhere (1). In the same interview, he spoke of the US having held fast in Iraq and having ‘succeeded’ there. He stated that ‘we’ must do the same …

Stephen Lendman — Nobel Hypocrisy Wins Again

Call it a rite of fall. Nobel hypocrisy shows up annually. It came again this year. The only surprise was which disreputable honoree would win. A surprise of sorts indeed. War criminals often become Peace Prize winners. This year a political/economic union won. Perhaps honoring Wall Street and neoliberal/war mongering …

Republican Convention Ratings Plummet From 2008

When it comes to following political conventions, Twitter may soon trump television. TV viewership for last week’s Republican National Convention dropped sharply from 2008, suggesting interest in this presidential race falls short of some past contests. But the convention was a hit online and on social networks, the latest evidence …

Stephen Lendman — The American Way

Past and present leaders reveal the soul of their nations. Arguably America never had one. Current domestic and foreign policies provide convincing evidence. Police state harshness targets defenders of right over wrong everywhere. National resources go for militarism, belligerence, and making super-rich elites richer. Corporations are licensed to steal, exploit, …

Gary Null, PhD, and Jeremy Stillman – Solar Storms: Katrina Times 1,000?

We have learned nothing since Katrina. Our decrepit water and gas systems have been around for sixty to eighty years. Our roads, bridges and tunnels and levees are in a state of abject disrepair. We have not taken the crucial step of constructing emergency facilities in our cities and towns. Besides putting many people to work, building these facilities would provide some semblance of civility during a time of crisis. People would be able to take refuge and have access to medical clinics and food banks. The current response network that relies on the Red Cross, FEMA and the National Guard during times of crisis is dangerously inadequate.
Now imagine that something could dwarf all of this; something that could kill tens of millions of Americans and cause at least half of America to experience life as if they were living in a Mad Max film. Imagine that a gigantic mass of plasma is released from the sun and heads directly for the Earth. Even though we have been assured that we can withstand such an event, the power of this coronal mass ejection overwhelms our electric grids and fries our power substations rendering them beyond repair. Our communications satellites are also severely damaged during the solar event and are unable to function. We are not told what has happened. When we pick up our phones, there is no dial tone. When we turn on the radio, we hear nothing. We head out to the street to ask our neighbors what has happened but nobody seems to know. The first inconvenience we notice is that our air conditioning is not working during the stifling heat of a warm summer day. Or worse still, our heat has been cut off as temperatures dip below thirty degrees.

The Burt Cohen Show – 04/10/12

In exchange for giving up their rights to water in 1969, the Navajo and Hopi were promised they’d be returned to them in fifty years. As we approach that deadline, Arizona Senators Kyl and McCain are rushing a bill through the senate to keep control in the hands of the …
