Today Show: Chinese Medicine

Guest Speaker: Dr. Jason Elias, MA, LMT http://fiveelementhealing.net/

Jason Elias is here to introduce the power of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Five Element Healing approach to wellness. Each element, and the corresponding season of the year it embodies, brings us its special gifts and challenges. His website has been intentionally designed to highlight these elements and illuminate their relationship to the natural healing of the body, mind, and spirit. The Five Element system of healing is based on the presence of inner energy which, when flowing rightly, promotes health, and when blocked, can develop disease. In my forty years of practice, I have found that when the body is carefully nurtured, it has the innate wisdom to heal itself.

John Atcheson – The Paris Climate Conference: Playing Craps With Our Planet’s Future

The climate change talks to be held in Paris this December (COP 21 in UN lingo) are all about how much risk to the livability of our planet we’re willing to accept. And the dirty little secret is, we’re accepting a hell of a lot right now, and we’re imposing even more on our children and future generations. Here’s why: …

Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya – Washington’s Financial Currency War on China: The Eclipsing of the US Dollar by the Yuan

The Chinese are in the process of displacing the monopoly of the US dollar. They are dropping their US Treasury bonds, stockpiling gold reserves, and opening regional distribution banks for their own national currency. This will give them easier access to capital markets and insulate them from financial manipulation by Washington and Wall Street. Fearing the eclipsing of the US …

Pepe Escobar – Welcome to the trade deal wars

BANGKOK — China continues to grow at a not too shabby 7%. And yet, because of the yuan devaluation and the sharp drop in the stock market, in most Western capitals the narrative switched to Armageddon descended over an economic model that generated, over the years, six-fold growth in Chinese GDP. Few are aware that Beijing, simultaneously, is engaged in …

Kieran Cooke – Too warm, too few fish: Health warning for world’s oceans

Rampant overfishing combined with the impact of climate change is seriously endangering the wellbeing of the oceans, environmental analysts say. LONDON, 23 August, 2015 – The world’s oceans – covering nearly two-thirds of the Earth’s surface, and on which much of human life depends – are under severe pressure, a report says. Over-fishing has dramatically reduced fish stocks. The thousands …

Alternative Visions – Is the Global Economy Heading for Another Financial Crisis? – 08.08.15

Jack Rasmus follows up the previous show on the global economy with an assessment of financial instability that appears to be growing globally as well. Jack briefly discusses how excess debt and income decline and stagnation basically cause financial instability, and explains how the new 200,000 or so global finance capital elite continue to create financial asset bubbles worldwide and how those bubbles appear to be converging. Financial bubbles that appear most unstable include China’s stock markets (Shanghai and Schenzhen), but also global oil and commodity futures, emerging market equity and bond markets, US and global bond ETFs sold by mutual funds, the US and Euro corporate junk bond markets, tech stocks, Eurozone banks, and currency exchange markets that are becoming much more volatile. Also noted are potential serious secondary effects of a lack of liquidity in bond markets in general and effects on US repo markets in turn. The show concludes with a in-depth look at causes behind the current China stock market collapse which, Jack argues, has yet to run its full course and could destabilize financial markets worldwide in the near future. The role of China government policies in causing a runup of 120% in China stocks in just one year is explained, as well as government measures introduced since June 12 of this year to stop the stock slide.

Mike Lofgren – The Soft Power Hoax

A recurrent buzz phrase of the Washington mandarinate in the last two decades has been “soft power.” The term was coined by Joseph Nye, a Harvard academic, in his 1990 book, Bound to Lead: The Changing Nature of American Power. What he meant by the term is that “when one country gets other countries to want what it wants [it] might …

Eduardo Galeano – God’s Masterpiece or the Devil’s Bad Joke?

Opium was outlawed in China. British merchants smuggled it in from India. Their diligent efforts led to a surge in the number of Chinese dependent on the mother of heroin and morphine, who charmed them with false happiness and ruined their lives. The smugglers were fed up with the hindrances they faced at the hands of Chinese authorities. Developing the …

Suicide, A Worldwide Epidemic – GRAHAM PEEBLES

A friend recently asked to meet for coffee. ‘I’ve had some more bad news,’ his text said. A ‘fifty something’ year old friend had taken his own life the day before. Jack had hanged himself from a tree in a public park on the outskirts of London; it was his fourth attempt. He had four children. This was the second, …

Kali Hays – Reform or Repression: What’s Behind Russia’s Mysterious College Shutdown?

Russia’s economy has taken a beating lately; the ruble is shaky, Western sanctions are taking a toll, and Putin is, well, he’s Putin. In spite of, or perhaps due to, all this, the country’s Ministry of Education is carrying out a federal plan to close hundreds of universities by the end of next year. Schools facing the axe are mostly private institutions that the …
