ROBERT HUNZIKER – Fukushima Radiation: a Killer

The cocksure pro-nuclear crowd has trumpeted Fukushima as an example of Mother Nature taking lives because of an earthquake and tsunami; whereas, the power plant accident proves nuclear power can withstand the worst without unnecessary death and illness. All of the deaths (16,000) were the fault of Mother Nature, not radiation. After all, it’s only one year ago that science …

Claire Provost and Matt Kennard – The World Bank Is Supposed to Help the Poor. So Why Is it Bankrolling Oligarchs?

A MILE NORTH OF the chaotic heart of downtown Rangoon, where electrical wires dangle haphazardly overhead and street vendors hawk roasted pig intestines, sits an upscale complex of 240 luxury residences overlooking the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda and a serene man-made lake. Marketed to wealthy expatriates and foreign businesspeople on extended stays in Burma’s bustling commercial capital, the newly built Shangri-La Serviced Apartments advertise …

Study: News coverage of Fukushima disaster found lacking

Five years after the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan, the disaster no longer dominates U.S. news headlines, although experts say it is a continuing disaster with broad implications. A new analysis by American University sociology professor Celine-Marie Pascale finds that U.S. news media coverage following the disaster minimized health risks to the general population. Pascale analyzed more than …

JOHN LAFORGE – Fukushima Five Years On: Not a Comedy of Errors, a Calamity of Terrors

Since it began March 11, 2011, thousands of freelancers have reported on the Fukushima-Daiichi triple reactor meltdowns and radiation gusher, the deluge of accidents, leaks, faulty cleanup efforts, the widespread contamination of workers, citizens, soil, food and water, and the long series of cancer studies, lawsuits, and ever-changing clean-up and decommissioning plans. As Japan Times reports last October, “Extremely high radiation levels …

Today Show: 5 Elemental Energies

Guest Speaker: Dr. Jason Elias http://fiveelementhealing.net

Dr. Jason Elias, has been in private practice since the 1970’s, treating thousands of patients by integrating the modalities of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutrition. Over a period of forty years, my professional training has included work in the U.S. with acknowledged leaders in the fields of psychology, the Alexander technique, massage therapy, bioenergetic therapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and herbal medicine; in Japan with masters of Aikido; in Hong Kong with a prominent Chinese acupuncturist and herbalist; and in India, with an Ayurvedic master.

What is the Five Elemental Energies?

The Five Elemental Energies (wu sing) represent the tangible activities of yin and yang as manifested in the cyclic changes of nature which regulate life on earth. Also known as the Five Movements (wu yun), they define the various stages of transformation in the recurring natural cycles of seasonal change, growth and decay, shifting climatic conditions, sounds, flavors, emotions, and human physiology. Each energy is associated with the natural element which most closely resembles its function and character, and from these elements they take their names. Unlike the Western and other systems of five elements, the Chinese system focuses on energy and its transformations, not on form and substance. The elements thus symbolize the activities of the energies with which they are associated.

Nuclear-industry critics Arnie and Maggie Gunderson warn that, almost five years after the meltdown, Fukushima still poses a danger to Japan and the Pacific region, and that the Japanese government is trying to prevent journalists and physicians from disclosing the ongoing problems.

The program closes with an excerpt from a 2015 speech by Arnie Gunderson rebutting the idea of nuclear power as a solution to global warming.

Arnie and Maggie Gunderson both worked in the nuclear industry, then became whistleblowers about problems in the industry.
They now operate the Fairewinds Foundation (www.fairewinds.org).

Dennis Normile – Mystery cancers are cropping up in children in aftermath of Fukushima

The March 2011 meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant caused extensive human suffering—evacuations, emotional trauma and premature deaths, disrupted jobs and schooling. What they have not caused, so far, is radiation-related illness among the general public, and few specialists expect dramatic increases in cancers or other ailments. The reactors spewed just a tenth of the radiation emitted by …

Ex-TEPCO Bosses Indicted in ‘Major Step’ for Justice in Fukushima

In what environmental advocates called a “major step” toward justice against corporate crime, three former executives with the Tokyo Electronic Power Company (TEPCO) on Monday were indicted on negligence charges over their roles in the 2011 nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. “I’m full of emotion,” said Ruiko Muto, head of a campaign group that is pushing for a Fukushima trial, during a press …

LINDA PENTZ GUNTER – The Great Fukushima Cover-Up

Dr. Tetsunari Iida is the founder and executive director of the Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies (ISEP) in Japan. As such, one might have expected a recent presentation he gave in the UK within the hallowed halls of the House of Commons, to have focused on Japan’s capacity to replace the electricity once generated by its now mainly shuttered nuclear power …
